What Does 35x Wagering Mean?
Learn what 35x wagering means, how to calculate the requirement and what to check before accepting a casino bonus.
A casino bonus might come with a tempting headline, but then you spot three characters that can change the entire offer: 35x.
So what does 35x wagering actually mean?
In simple terms, a 35x wagering requirement means the specified amount must be wagered 35 times before the associated bonus funds or winnings become eligible for withdrawal, subject to the casino's terms.
The important question is: 35 times what?
That's where things get interesting.
What Does 35x Mean?
Let's say a casino gives a player a C$100 bonus with a 35x wagering requirement.
If the 35x applies to the bonus amount, the calculation is:
C$100 × 35 = C$3,500
The player would therefore need to place C$3,500 worth of qualifying wagers before completing the wagering requirement.
That does not mean the player needs to deposit C$3,500.
It means C$3,500 in qualifying bets must be placed.
The Multiplier Doesn't Always Apply to the Bonus
This is one of the most important details to check.
A casino could state that its 35x wagering requirement applies to the bonus alone.
But another promotion could apply the multiplier to the deposit and bonus combined.
For example:
C$100 deposit + C$100 bonus = C$200
If the 35x requirement applies to the combined amount:
C$200 × 35 = C$7,000
That's double the wagering requirement of the first example.
The headline "35x" is therefore not enough information by itself.
Is 35x a High Wagering Requirement?
It depends on what the multiplier applies to and what games count toward the requirement.
A 35x requirement on the bonus alone can be considerably different from a 35x requirement on the deposit plus bonus.
Game contribution also matters.
If a slot contributes 100% toward the requirement, every C$1 wagered on that eligible game could count as C$1 toward the wagering total.
Other games may contribute at a lower percentage or potentially not count at all.
Here's a Simple Example
Imagine a promotion offers:
- C$100 deposit
- C$100 bonus
- 35x wagering
- 100% contribution on eligible slots
If the 35x applies to the bonus only:
C$100 × 35 = C$3,500
If the requirement applies to the combined deposit and bonus:
C$200 × 35 = C$7,000
That's a significant difference, despite both promotions being described as having a 35x wagering requirement.
What Happens While You're Wagering?
The wagering requirement is generally tracked by the casino as eligible bets are placed.
If the requirement is C$3,500 and C$1,000 of qualifying wagers have been completed, there would theoretically be C$2,500 remaining.
However, the amount credited toward the requirement depends on the casino's contribution rules.
A C$10 wager on a game with 50% contribution, for example, may only add C$5 to the wagering progress.
This is another reason to check which games qualify before assuming that every wager reduces the requirement at the same rate.
What If the Bonus Expires?
Most casino bonuses have an expiry period.
If the wagering requirement isn't completed before the bonus expires, the remaining promotional funds may be removed according to the terms.
The expiry period can therefore be just as important as the multiplier.
A 35x requirement with a generous expiry period is a different proposition from 35x with only a short window to complete it.
Does Completing 35x Guarantee a Withdrawal?
Not necessarily.
Completing the wagering requirement only addresses that particular condition.
There may still be other rules covering:
- Maximum bets
- Maximum cashouts
- Eligible games
- Minimum deposits
- Account verification
- Withdrawal requirements
This is why completing the multiplier shouldn't be viewed as the only hurdle between a bonus and a withdrawal.
The Bonus Bandit's Take
35x wagering doesn't automatically tell you whether a casino bonus is good or bad.
The key is understanding what the 35x applies to, which games count and how long you have to complete it.
A C$100 bonus with 35x wagering could mean C$3,500 in qualifying wagers. But if the same multiplier applies to a C$100 deposit plus C$100 bonus, the requirement could become C$7,000.
The multiplier is only the beginning. The fine print tells you what it really means.
